Picking the Perfect Tiles for You

Tiles are a staple in every home, and this year, it’s time to step it up. Bold colours, patterns and textures are trending, and we are here to give you the inside scoop.
Tiles are a great way to complement other design features in a room, so before picking what style is right for your home, we want you to consider the general feel you want to achieve..

Our Supplier – Tiles Expo

Our supplier Tiles Expo is a Western Australian family run company, established in 1982. They believe tiles not only perform an aesthetic, decorative function but also a technical function, therefore their tiles are made from materials that can resist different types of environmental stress without breaking or deteriorating.

Go Bold or Go Home

Based on interior design forecasts, Australian homes are about to get a whole lot bolder, livelier, and colourful. In the past, design has claimed that less is more, but it’s finally time to step up and make some bold choices! The Harlequin Dark Green tiles featured in the kitchen of our Southern River display is a great example of how-to draw your guest’s attention.

Choosing a matte or polished finish is another design choice you get to make. Texture is a great way inject personality into a room and tiles are the perfect way to do this. The bathroom in our Capri display home features a mixture of the Azzurro Sfumature tiles in different textures. By combining a blend of the same tile in different finishes you can spruce up an otherwise simple bathroom design!

If bold patterns and colours are a bit too daring for you, there’s no need to worry – there are still ways you can add colour to your design without stepping too far out of your comfort zone. We would recommend adding light blue or green tiles to a bathroom or kitchen. Calming colours will brighten up any space and can help emulate that effortlessly cool beach-house style.

Size, Shape and Direction

Now that you’ve got a grasp of what colour tiles you’re after, it’s time to think about size, shape and direction. Large tiles are a great way to make a room feel more spacious and luxurious. Using tiles on the walls will make the space more cohesive, as seen in the bathroom of our Dianella display with grey marvel gems terrazzo tiles. In a small room, light-coloured tiles will make the space feel bigger.

Different tile shapes and the way they are placed can completely alter the style of your space! For instance, a subway tile can be laid vertically or horizontally. Traditionally they are used horizontally, as seen in the kitchen of our Casa display home, however, to create a more modern look, people are choosing to lay subway tiles vertically to enhance its style.
